Without, 2011/16

This triptych of films was prompted by an image I saw on my arrival at the family home after the death of my father and before his burial. The house was eerily quiet and dark. It took me a little while to realise that all the mirrors were covered by white bed linen to spare the tormented, wondering soul endless bouncing between them. The films are a meditation on grief.

Without Reflection and Without Shadow were first exhibited at The Wapping Project as part of a series of exhibitions Undiscovered Landscapes, 2011. The entire triptych premiered at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2016 and was subsequently exhibited at Kronenboden Gallery in Berlin in 2017.
